Some years ago Shean Bjoralt started a small business in Minneapolis called Earth Cycles . He first built 18 lowracer recumbent bikes named Sunset, and then switched to building recumbent tadpole trikes named Dragonflyer. After a few years of modest sales his business folded. The Sunset lowracer is unusual even by recumbent cycling standards. It has both a telescoping crankset boom AND a telescoping frame connection under the seat. The combination of these two features make it possible for this bike to be fitted to both small children (see pictures) when the frame is compressed, and tall adults when the frame is extended (and anyone in between). Because the bike separates into three main sections - crankset boom, front main frame, and rear main frame - it also can be made very compact for travel purposes. I do not know of any other recumbent bike with this design. The bike has a monoblade front fork for better chain clearance, a custom-made stainless steel rear rack, Phil Wood front hub, Shimano Deore XT rear hub, and high quality components in general. A centrally located step-up gear lets the 20" rear wheel act like a full-size rear wheel for gearing purposes. No giant pie-pan chainring is needed to get a high gear. I added a pivoting handlebar to my bike for easy entry and exit. The original fixed position handlebar will be included too. Try both and use the one you prefer. The bike is small, fast and fun. It will give you both high miles per hour and high smiles per hour. The 18 Sunset lowracers did not roll off of a Chinese assembly line. The designer / builder Shean Bjoralt was reputed to be a perfectionist. He hand-built the Earth Cycle machines one at a time, and the price reflects this. If you want to find out more, go to cyclingforums.com and search under "earth cycles sunset" and "zach kaplan". There you will find more in-depth information about this highly unusual and rare bike. I am in Glenview IL. I can pack the bike for safe shipping and use BikeFlights.com / UPS to get it to you. Thanks for your attention and safe riding.
